Kickoff Match
Survivor Series Elimination Match*

Team Raw (Captains - Bobby Roode & Chad Gable) vs. Team Smackdown (Captains - The Usos)

*If one member of a tag team is eliminated, both team members are out of the match

RESULT: Team Smackdown wins (Usos are the sole survivors); Jimmy Uso pinned Dawson following a superkick-Samoan Splash combo for the final elimination.

Smackdown leads 1-0.

TIME: 23:15

THOUGHTS: It's almost surreal to not see the Cruiserweight Title kicking off the show (not complaining, mind you). We saw some pretty basic exchanges and eliminations to get through the clutter of both tag divisions until we got to the "meat" of either brand's tag ranks with RAW's Roode & Gable and The Revival versus The New Day and The Usos, after which I felt the pace of the match really started to pick up. Gable and Big E had some fun power exchanges and we got a fun sneak peek of a potential future feud in The Revival against The Usos if the next Superstar Shakeup in 2019 goes the right way.

Survivor Series
Women's Elimination match
Team RAW (Captain - Alexa Bliss) vs. Team Smackdown (Captain - Naomi)

RESULT: Team RAW wins (Nia Jax is the sole survivor); Nia Jax pinned Asuka following a trio of legdrops and a Samoan Drop for the final elimination.

RAW and Smackdown are tied 1-1.

TIME: 20:21

THOUGHTS: This was definitely a step down in terms of the overall quality that we had in the tag team elimination match. The women put forth a decent effort, but it felt like RAW vs Smackdown was merely a backdrop for Nia Jax vs The WWE Fans, as the negative reaction from start to finish for her was overwhelming, and not necessarily in a good way. I can understand WWE's "there's never such a thing as bad publicity" mindset in wanting to capitalize on the legitimate heat fans and critics have for Nia, but if anything it'll only serve to bring more attention to Nia's negative traits, such as her unsafe power style and seeming inability to improve her in-ring work.

Champion vs. Champion
Singles Match

"The Kingslayer" Seth Rollins vs. "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura

RESULT: Seth Rollins wins via pinfall; Shinsuke missed the Kinshasa, leading to a Curb Stomp by Rollins for the three count.

RAW leads 2-1.

TIME: 21:17

THOUGHTS: First off, I know continuity isn't WWE's specialty, but commentary flat out ignoring the tag team elimination match win for Smackdown is insane, bordering on flat-out idiocy.

Any way, this was a great first-time meet up between Rollins and Nakamura. They showed a great chemistry with one another, with smooth transitions  between holds, slick counter-wrestling, and a fun back-and-forth finish with Rollins barely dodging the Kinshasa and hitting the Stomp for a big three count. No involvement from Ambrose during or after the match, which surprised me, but I suppose whatever unnecessary screwball antics WWE has in mind for the main event will more than fill WWE's quota for the night. Come the 2019 shakeup, I'd love to see these two on the same brand for a more fleshed-out feud.

Champions vs. Champions
Tag Team Match

The Authors of Pain w/Drake Maverick vs. The Bar w/The Big Show

RESULT: The AOP win via pinfall; Rezar pinned Sheamus following a powerbomb/neckbreaker combo.

RAW leads 3-1.

TIME: 8:57

THOUGHTS: I should have known better than to tempt fate when it comes to WWE and their proclivity for BS and shenanigans. It's bad enough they took what could have been a good-to-great hoss match between two physical sets of tag champs and make it the "piss break" match, but then they turned it into a literal one with Drake's little "accident" leading an abrupt win for AOP and RAW. This was a joke of a match and, much like all of Vince's potty humor, not at all remotely good or funny.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Singles Match

"The Juggernaut" Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Mustafa Ali

RESULT: Buddy Murphy wins via pinfall; Murphy countered a springboard with a mid-air knee strike, followed by Murphy's Law for the win.

TIME: 12:15

THOUGHTS: This was just what the show needed to get back on track after the AOP-Bar "piss break" debacle. Murphy and Ali put on an unbelievably intense, fast-paced match, which has been the hallmark of the revitalized 205 Live. Ali showed his "heart and soul" moniker quite well, proving to be a very resilient opponent for Murphy, pulling off some big-time moves like a SICK-looking spike-rana and a between-the-ropes tornado DDT. On the other end, Murphy put on his working boots for his 1st PPV title defense since winning the CW strap in Sidney. He came in with an impressive power and striking game, including back-to-back powerbombs and an equally SICK-looking knee strike before finally putting Ali away with Murphy's Law.
I would love to see these two continue to mix it up.

Survivor Series
Men's Elimination Match
Team Smackdown (Captain - The Miz) vs. Team RAW (Captain - Baron Corbin)

RESULT: Team RAW wins (Strowman, McIntyre & Lashley are the survivors); Strowman hit Shane McMahon with a running powerslam for the final elimination.

RAW leads 4-1.

TIME: 24:04

THOUGHTS: I'm not really sure what to make of this. On the one hand, I knew that in some shape or form, RAW's male team had to win for Braun's storyline to continue. However, the way we were lead up to it, with RAW already up 3-1, made the ultimate outcome here rather anticlimactic. RAW wins, Baron likely keeps his job, Strowman gets both Corbin and a Universal Title opportunity, and the world keeps spinning, I suppose.

I did find the subplot of Miz kissing up to and hyping up Shane before and throughout the match pretty funny. At one point. Miz encouraged Shane to go for back-to-back Coast to Coast dropkicks, even when Shane could barely stand on one leg, and then ducking out to let Shane take the bullet from Braun Strowman. Shane taking the loss was one call I thought could go down and I'm curious to see where it takes him as well as his seeming alliance/friendship developing on-screen with Miz and where that may take the A-Lister.

Smackdown vs RAW
Women's Singles Match

"The Queen" Charlotte Flair vs. "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey

RESULT: Ronda Rousey wins via DQ; Charlotte attacked Ronda with a kendo stick for the disqualification.

RAW leads 5-1.

TIME: 14:07

THOUGHTS: Commentary brought up valid on-screen points for why Charlotte snapped and went all-out Pillman on Ronda, but I actually understand why they went the direction they did in Charlotte getting herself DQ'ed. RAW, as Cole would point out during the following Lesnar-Bryan match, had already won the battle for brand supremacy over Smackdown, so to have this be a mere battle of two brands' top tier women would be a hollow notion with mere short-term excitement from the fans.

So instead, we get a match that was indeed great and uber-competitive as expected, only to devolve into an outright assault when Charlotte feared she couldn't get the job done, not only shocking the crowd by her actions but getting them pumped for more. If the Four Horsewomen feud does in fact come to fruition on WWE programming, you can be assured this will be used as the opening salvo.

Champion vs Champion
Singles Match

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Universal Champion Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman

RESULT: Brock Lesnar wins via pinfall; Brock picked up Bryan out of a triangle choke into a F-5 for the win.

RAW wins 6-1.

TIME: 18:47

THOUGHTS: First off, let me say this was an overall great main event. For those critics who say Brock mails in it every time (and I've admittedly been one of them at times), he busted his ass selling for Daniel Bryan, a guy 50-60 lbs lighter than him and whom Brock suplexed like he was throwing a lightweight training dummy. On that note, I cringed every time Bryan took one of those German suplexes and landed on the back of his head (may be why Brock changed over to belly-to-belly suplexes at one point) and I'm thankful that, at least for the moment, there wasn't any reported serious damage to Bryan's head. Bryan making the amazing comeback and nearly pulling off an upset submission victory had me and the audience pumped, only for Brock to pull off a desperation F-5 for the win. We all kind of knew it was going down, but damn if Bryan didn't have me going for a couple minutes there.

Other than that, Bryan told a fascinating in-ring story eerily similar not just to Styles' efforts against Brock last year at Survivor Series, but also to his former mentor Shawn Michaels and his shocking turn against Hulk Hogan in 2005. Both men were perennial faces in the latter parts of their respective careers, so the heel turns for both Bryan and HBK really came out of nowhere, leading to HBK's hilariously overblown spectacle with Hogan at SummerSlam '05, as well as Bryan's turn against AJ, leading to his title win on Smackdown and the war that ensued with Lesnar tonight.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bryan comes out on Smackdown this Tuesday to reveal that he indeed turned on AJ and hijacked the championship not out of some sort of personal vendetta, but rather to see if he had what it took to combat and beat "The Beast", apologizes to AJ, and gives him his due rematch. Whether that actually goes down remains to be seen, but I think what would make it really interesting is how it would intertwine with the impending Shane McMahon heel turn.

Outside of the "pee break" BS and the lack of quality and/or drama of the men's and women's elimination matches, this was an overall pretty good PPV effort by WWE.
