Goldberg has "hatched!"...Is A Return to the ring "Next?"

Hmmmmm...

My bad.

In all honestly, I really should've known. I even said in the previous post the #Hatch hints would probably lead to something stupid like a WWE Films trailer piece, but even then I was only half right. Isaac Asimov once said, "Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them every once in a while, or the light won't come in"...or in more layman's terms, makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me."

That being said, Goldberg's trailer would probably imply that he's, in some shape or form, returning to the WWE fold. We're looking at either a simple Hall of Fame induction, or Vince may try to entice him further into making an actual in-ring return. Given Goldberg's past remarks about Vince as a person and a businessman, I'm not too keen on the latter, but it would be a fascinating prospect.

The WWE and its video monkeys have been bringing up Goldberg more in recent weeks, even during a video speculating what could go down at WrestleMania 33, one of those possibilities being Goldberg returning to face off with Roman Reigns, which even Goldberg himself said he'd want to do if given the chance, as well as renew his rivalry with Brock Lesnar.

So if Vince and WWE went all out to get Goldberg for at least one more match, the question would be: Who would Goldberg face off with? Here are three possibilities...

Picture

Brock Lesnar

Goldberg himself admitted in the interview I linked above that the potential he and Lesnar had to make a hard-hitting, powerhouse brawl for WrestleMania 20 was so great that, when word broke that he was leaving WWE and Lesnar was heading to the NFL and the fans turned on them both, Goldberg didn't blame them and knew right away he and Lesnar wouldn't be able to achieve said great potential.

Now, you have Lesnar firmly entrenched as THE special attraction in WWE, the proprietor of "Suplex City and an all-around favorite who's frankly never looked better, WM 20 a mere ghost of a memory for him and most fans, and he's not going anywhere any time soon. You have Goldberg, who may be older (49 years old), and 20-30 pounds lighter, but has made it clear he could go at a moment's notice if need be.

Give them 20-25 minutes, a totally no-holds-barred scenario, and they could very well achieve that hard-sought potential, if not surpass it.

The Undertaker

Now, I know the WM 33 linked above talked about the potential between two WWE legends in Cena and Taker finally duking it out on the biggest stage, but a dream bout between a WWE and WCW phenom, probably the only viable one left with Sting's seeming retirement, would have just as much big money potential, even in 2016.

Just hear me out. I know the two are very old by wrestling standards, Goldberg (49 years) and Undertaker (51 years), injuries are amounting for Taker, and both men's prime performance years are behind them, but I have no doubt they could create quite the spectacle if given the opportunity. Taker showed everyone he can still go the distance with his multiple PPV performances last year and his HITC matches with Brock and Shane, so I don't doubt he could still go come 2017.

Roman Reigns

...No, I'm not looking for a one-way ticket to "Suplex City", why do you ask?

Oh, those. Anyway...

Goldberg's expressed in recent interviews that a "victim" he's missed out on and would like a chance to face off would be the current WWE World Champion and "much beloved...by McMahon anyway" Roman Reigns.

That not withstanding, this is the least likely of the three possibilities I've considered. Not because it'd be bad (Powerhouse vs. Powerhouse, Spear vs. Spear, some fun potential to be had there), but simply because it would mean throwing out another possible big time main event in Roman facing off with his former Shield brethren, the most  heavily speculated match of the past couple years and one that WWE is willing to do, but has yet to pull the trigger on due to its pure drawing potential and badly-time injuries among the three...

Any potential WM 33 opponents you guys and gals could see for Goldberg? Let us know in the comments section!

In terms of getting a watchable match out of Goldberg, with his limitations, none of those three present good match ups... give him someone that will bump around for him like a Seth Rollins.

That's true, but I was thinking more of a Goldberg-Lesnar/Reigns/Taker showdown being another of WWE's "grand spectacles" than a true wrestling match.

You are right though, in that a type of guy like Rollins or Dolph Ziggler who sells spectacularly could make Goldberg look pretty decent at his advanced age.
