A happy belated Father's day to my pappy David Hill and step-pappy Bobby Pespisa! ...ahem... The fallout from Money in the Bank 2016 has produced a number of shocking highs and lows, none higher than a surprising new champion in Dean Ambrose and none lower than the surreal 30-day Wellness "vacation" handed down to WWE's poster boy Roman Reigns...
To say this comes as a shock is an understatement on several levels; aside from emergency hernia surgery in 2014, Roman has always been portrayed as possessing a clean bill of health, body-wise and drug-wise. It is understandable given the incredible pressure WWE has him under trying to push him as their new golden boy, the next "John Cena", something that we've seen has made him uncomfortable at times, but that still leaves no excuse for him to violate WWE's Wellness Policy so egregiously, and right after the dream match that almost all of WWE's fans have been clamoring for, a all-Shield triple-threat, was just made for Battleground next month. Now, it's possible that the triple-threat could still take place, given the PPV happens on July 24th, while Roman's suspension ends three days prior, since WWE has worked around Roman's absence to promote his PPV matches before, like with WrestleMania 3. However, the difference between now and then is that Roman's serving a punishment rather than sitting out due to a surgery, so it's more likely that he'll be outright removed from the match and it will most probably be a straight-up one-on-one with Ambrose in his first title defense versus Seth Rollins. That would still be a marquee match WWE could tout, since Ambrose and Rollins have never been known to have a real bad match... ...We could see the Shield triple-threat main event moved to SummerSlam, with Roman returning at Battleground during or after the title match to set up the triple-threat. With any luck, we could also very well see the transition of Roman from "keep sipping your beer" pseudo-heel to full-on heel, playing up his suspension as claiming he martyred himself for the fans and the company, only to be criticized as "The Guy" both neither apparently wanted nor needed. While the WWE has had more than its share of swings and misses in recent years, most, if not everything having to do with the three former members of the Shield has been a home run every time, so the trend will hopefully continue here.
